POLITICAL INFLUENCE NEVER HURTS IN CHICAGO

There is a sad tale that has been simmering just below the surface dating back to the spring of 2004 that involves R.J. Vanecko, the nephew of former Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley and current White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley. To get a good understanding of this lingering story please read veteran Chicago TV news anchor, and now Chicago Sun-Times columnist, Carol Marin’s report:

This is another story of a tragic conclusion to a night of drinking that resulted in the death of a young man. Whether or not there is inappropriate political influence or police collusion is yet to be determined, but having been an old veteran observer of Chicago politics, and knowing the expertise of Carol Marin as a experienced reporter in the Windy City, I am betting that there is dark smoke to this slow simmering fire.

Your Commander guesses that it never hurts to be born into a family of wealth and wide-spread influence. It is totally unfair to draw a firm conclusion in this case, but Marin raises appropriate questions. It appears that another little guy was the victim of the heavy hand of political influence. It would be a shame if this matter does not get a full airing in the light of day, but only time will tell.
