Today is a huge day in the life of your Commander, because I am celebrating my 80th birthday. There is a saying that goes, “If I had known I would live this long, I would have taken better care of myself.”, but that certainly does not apply to me because I would not change one thing. It has thus far been one magnificent journey.
Of course I would strongly suggest that if you drink alcohol or smoke, both of which I once did, you would be wise to stop and stop immediately, because it is a proven fact that it will impact your quality of life, especially if you are successful in reaching the extra innings of life. It would be prudent to not push your luck.
I am extremely fortunate to have been born here in the United States of America to two wonderful and loving parents who also provided me with good genes for long-life, which they experienced too. My dad died in 1976 at age 83 and mom passed away in 1998 at age 94. Can you imagine having been born and raised in some place like Afghanistan or remote China? There is much to be thankful for despite the numerous challenges we face on a daily basis.
I appreciate my good fortune, my parent’s sacrifices, my wonderful education and over 40 years in the broadcast profession during its golden years. During these many years I have been blessed with a loving wife, wonderful children, terrific grand-children that make me proud each and every day, and many great friends.

I know not how many extra-innings or over-time will be allotted to me, but I will give it all my energies, because I intend to make this one hell of a good game as long as I can swing the bat. Whenever it ends I will know that it has been a magnificent adventure filled with thousands of wondrous experiences and enjoyments of love from those who participated in my life’s journey. Thanks to all who have shared in this adventure. God willing, there are many innings yet to be played.

Happy Belated Birthday to my cousin. You are a wonderful man and friend and I have so enjoyed our times together over the years. Looking forward to many more. Thank you also for your piece about "3's" which mentioned my mother. It is still unfathomable that she is gone from this world, but comforting to know that she is with our Lord. Love, Bill
